Hey everyone, I just wanted to post really quickly that I got back in contact with Coach Hugill recently on Facebook. He said to tell you all hi and that we all have a special place in his heart. I thought you all should know. From what I can tell he is doing well. He works at Coronado now but we should all still try to love him anyway. Darren and I had a fabulous trip to DC from 4/29-5/2.

We flew into Baltimore late Wednesday night, took a shuttle to our hotel in DC, and then hit the sights Thursday morning. We started with the WWII Monument (excellent) and then met our friends at the Capitol for a tour. The Capitol was totally inspiring--if I was forced to choose, it was probably my favorite thing. Here we are standing in front of Ms. Freedom--her twin sits atop the Capitol Dome.

Next, we went to the Library of Congress, which is stunning on the inside, and we saw a really cool Lincoln exhibit there (2009 is the 200th anniversary of his birth.)

Then we went in the Smithsonian Nat'l History Museum.
And apparently the only picture I took is of the Seinfeld Puffy Shirt and Oscar the Grouch.

We finished off the day at the Washington Monument, the Nat'l Portrait Museum, and Ford's Theater, where we saw a very touching musical about the Civil War.

Friday we attended our friends' son's wedding here.

Then Darren and I begged off the luncheon to see some more stuff. Like the actual Constitution. The Archives were so very cool for a complete history geek like myself.

Then Saturday was our last full day and we made the most of it, let me tell you. Not including inside museums and Arlington, we walked 9.8 miles. Here we are in front of our first stop, the White House.

On the way to the National Mall, we spied the Boy Scout Monument behind a construction fence. Darren got this pic by shoving the camera through a crack. I included this pic especially for all you Haddock scouters.

Oh, yes, and then there was this interesting little event happening in the park across from the White House. World Labyrinth Day. The First Annual. Whaat?

The juxtaposition of the profound and the petty is pretty great.

The Vietnam War Memorial was very touching. But even more so was the group of WWII veterans being pushed around in their wheelchairs by their sons and daughters. We saw their tour bus later that day, with a full police escort.

Just as it should be.

The Lincoln Monument was well, monumental. I love that guy.

Jefferson's Monument was colossal, too.

I think they should be big like this. Its more inspiring.

After a few more museums (Natural History, Air and Space), we took the train to Arlington.

Oh, how we loved this place.

Watching these young men guard the tomb in the rain was so profound.

For our last few hours, we decided to go back to the steps of the Capitol, where once again, we witnessed the sublime and the ridiculous.

Seguay Tours.

It was hilarious to watch these people. Some riders could not stop zooming around. Two guys were chasing each other around the fountain whilst the tour guide pontificated on the significance of the heart of democracy. One couple was holding hands and kissing while riding, and this one older guy just wiggled back and forth, back and forth. So, so funny.

All in all, it was unforgettable.

Next time we're getting Seguays.

I know many of you frequently wonder, "What are the perks of being a single spinster of a teacher anyway?"

Well, here is one: You get to go to Boston on the governments pretty penny.

Here I am cooking ricotta fritters on the ol' fire.

We were lucky enough to be in Boston Common on the day of the modern tea party. Notice the hard core rioters.

I could not resist the grilled haddock at Legal Seafood. I know it sounds caniblistic but it really was tasty.

Befriending the British... Weaving (aren't you glad I wasn't as angry as my friend Tiffany behind me?)

Friday night we went to a Red Sox game which was pretty much complete awesomeness. We had the cheap $40 tickets but our friends were 8 rows behind home plate and a couple of old ladies left during the fifth inning so we got a major league seat upgrade. I ate a hot dog, fries, bottled water and kettle corn. Worth every penny, or should I say worth every 5 dollars

I have definitely come to the realization that Dillan has a lot of Haddock in him. We were out and about today and I asked him if he wanted to get some ice cream before we went home. His reponse, "No ice cream, plie Momma!" Plie = pie with an extra L in it.

Thank you to Grandma Ellen for feeding us so much plie that he turns down ice cream and asks for plie instead. The best part is I asked him, "Are you sure you don't want ice cream?" To which he said, "Plie and ice cream!"

We went for ice cream anyway and skipped the pie...he forgot all about it once we got Aggie Ice Cream. YUMMY!

March for Babies

Hey family!! It was so good to see all of you while I was in Utah. Thanks for taking the time to spend with Abby and I. Matt, Abby, and I are all walking as part of the birthplace team at stormont-vail for the March for dimes walk. Thank you goes out to Mom for giving me this trial setup of an amarylis. It really did work. It isn't the color the box said it would be, but it is pretty none the less. It worked out great! I definitely think that $5 walmart bulb did as well as the ones from Andersons that are expensive. And who doesn't love the surprise of waiting to see what color it is going to be. It was like Christmas! Okay, not that good, but still...it was captivating.

Larry was totally blown away, as you can see, with his combined gift from all of the contributors. Thanks much to you all!

Larry is a tough bowling competitor! He trounced me after we got home Saturday night from David & Emily's place and I got it set up. However, the second game I beat him.

Jeremy set up a Mii for Larry, Mom and himself that bears some slight resemblence to how they look. Tonight I set up one for me.

Something doesn't seem quite right

I popped open the jar that mom gave Grandma for christmas that was full of yummy treats for the family. When I got the rubber band off and pulled the cloth and stuffing off the top this is what I found. I couldn't resist taking a picture!

The stuff inside is great! Dillan even gave his seal of approval with the "Mmm, Mmm!" everytime he put something in his mouth. He really likes the stale marshmallows. He must be a Haddock. :)

Work, Work, Work

Well, we have had an eventfull week on our house!! I finally got the cupboard doors painted, and matt put them up on tuesday. Here are a few shots of our kitchen projects this past week!

Here we are mudding. As many of you may know, tiling is a long process and there are many parts. Here is the part where you put the grout all over!

After you put the grout all in the cracks, you have to take some buckets of water, and scrub it all around. This is the only action I got in on!! Boy was it fun!

Here is our finished product! Pretty good for amateurs! We sure saved a lot of money doing it ourselves, and I'm definately proud of how it turned out!

Here is a finished shot of the kitchen. If you didn't see the before pictures, the change is amazing. We painted cabinets, new appliances, new countertop, and sink, and now tiling! It's so nice to have our fridge in the kitchen. It has been in the garage for the past four months, and it was annoying to go in and out of the garage to get stuff for supper!

Here is the very beginning part of the tiling. You have to actually lay the tile in cement stuff, and that has to sit 24 hrs before grouting. Let's just say I've been without an oven for a week!

Well, we had a bit of a scare. AT&T cut a ton of jobs, and there was rumor that Matt was going to be layed off. They ended up keeping the two with the most seniority, and that happened to be him. He had more seniority than two guys on another crew, so it bumped them out, and Matt and a co-worker are taking their place. We are so blessed that he has a job, and I even found out I like Kansas more than I thought in the process.

I hope this blog finds you all well. We are sure keeping busy with this house!! Sorry Anne, Matt refuses to hang outside christmas lights! Man I miss those lighting ceremonies! I love and miss you all!

We got our first true snow yesterday. Not a lot, but an inch or so. Jeremy helped get the tree up last night for Grandma and we are still in the process of getting the rest of the house decorated, but here is a sneak peak. Check out Grandma's blog to see a video. :)

No longer home owners!

So I thought I'd follow Anne's example and make a post. I don't know who has heard yet but our house finally sold last week. That is one thing that we are definitely thankful for. I personally, am glad that they can't rake us across the coals for more money anymore. After all is said and done (and paid) we are actually losing a few thousand dollars. But at least we don't have to pay $1000/ month not to live there. Other than that things have been pretty good. It was good to see Darren, Cassie, Emily, and families for Thanksgiving.

We got the bath/shower mostly put in to Grandma's house. It's not the most professional looking project I've been involved in but I think it will work once Tom comes back to fix the leak in the drain. We can't use it yet because the drain just leaks onto the floor. Here are some pics.

Also Dillan has kinda started to potty train. He has gone number one several times and even went number two once. It is not regular but he loves his little potty. Here he is on his own personal throne and some other bonus pics.

Check out what we found. Look at the expiration date. It's older than me! Grandma's place needs a little cleaning out.

We also got to go to a USU basketball game a few weeks ago courtesy of HRI. It was awesome and we had great seats.

Anne's Holiday trip to the Coast

So, what's up? No one posts anymore? I felt like I'd jump start this Haddock blogger gig a little. What about some Thanksgiving Holiday pictures? We went to Newport on the Oregon coast. It was in the 60's and sunny. I love the sea lions. They're so adorable. We had some famous MO's clam chowder. Wendy's parents left this morning. We had a great Thanksgiving holiday. I'll send some pictures of our decked out house when I unload them from my camera. I say we all send pictures of our abodes lit up for Christmas. What do you all think?

Can life be crazier??

Here are a lot of pictures from yesterday!! Abby turned 1, as many of you may know. The past year has flown by, and I thank the Lord everyday for the wonderful gift of being a mother. We love Abby so much, and can't imagine life without her!
This is Abby eating her lunch. We had BBQ sandwiches, funeral potatoes, baked beans, and tracies delicious salad! It made for a great lunch!

I had my heart set on a huge cupcake for Abby. We actually found a cupcake store that made it for us. It was BEAUTIFUL! They actually just barely started making them, and so they all loved it and have it posted on their website! It sure was more pretty than tasty though.

This is the table we set up with the cake, Abby's picture and her memory box. I made a box (with Tracie and Cassie's help) and made slips of paper for everyone to write something to Abby that she can open on her 16th birthday. Letters of hopes and dreams for her, or something they love about her....etc. For those of you not in attendance, We would like you to add your letters as well. I have paper I can send, or you can send it on whatever you would like. We hope you will add your thoughts to this special day!

This is the big cake that everyone ate. It was quite delicous. The party sure turned out well. Thanks to Mom and Dad for the birthday call! Abby loved listening to you sing!

My camera died, and I don't have the pics of presents, or the eating of the beautiful but not so yummy Abby cupcake, but I will be getting some from Gail, and Cassie has some, so she might add them!

On other news..... I GOT INTO NURSING SCHOOL!!! I just found out on Thursday that I got accepted to the LPN program. I start in January and will have my LPN in December. I might be able to hop right into a bridge to RN which will only take another 2 semesters. So it's basically getting the job done, without taking a ton of pre-reqs that KS didn't accept. I'm super excited, and have been waiting SO long for this opportunity!

We hope and pray all is well. We love and miss you all!
